When I set out to write stories, my intended goal was to find the best ways to immerse people into my universe. Eventually I discovered the wonders of Tabletop Roleplaying and how they allow for collaborative storytelling amongst groups of friends. Then came my podcast that allowed me to tell me stories in a more EPIC fashion!
My question to you is what steps do you take to immerse your audience into the world’s you create?
This is an interesting question and one that I’m not sure I can answer completely. Even though I’ve been writing for over a decade, I still consider myself a novice in many ways. This has been a specific challenge I’ve run into with operating The Storyletter Substack, and that is: How do I spin up excitement for the next story being published?
I know movies have trailers that come out in waves, months in advance. Then there are articles and press releases and red carpet events and pre-screenings. All these things that hype up a movie as this grand spectacle. Written narratives not so much. I know some authors have book trailers, reviews, ARCs (advance reader copies), and promotions. Anyways, that’s probably not what you’re asking.
The steps I’ve taken to immerse readers in my world have generally been writing short stories to introduce them to certain characters and settings. Now with Midjourney, I can generate imagery that is original and unique to my world in a rather short amount of time and inexpensively. However, I haven’t taken full advantage of this process yet and hope to expand the Tales of Havek soon.
I've been too busy to respon back to this, sorry about that Winston.
Honentry though, I think what you've done with Project Biotica is pretty awesome and is rather immersive. I could imagine you turning it into a text based video/audio recording where it's a black screen with a transcript while you have a voice over and then display the images as your narrator takes them. Though I know editing something like that would take time.
Also, I'm very excited to see what you do with Havek. I'm still very interested in our collaboration on it in the future!
